California State Senator Connie Leyva has endorsed Laura Friedman for State Assembly in District 43.
Senator Leyva is Chair of the Democratic Caucus in the California State Senate. She is the former President of United Food and Commercial Workers, Local 1428. She also served as the first woman President of the California Labor Federation.
“Laura Friedman is an outstanding community leader and a strong champion for working families,” stated Senator Leyva. “Friedman helped lead the Fight for $15 in her community and brought hundreds of middle class jobs to her city. She will be a creative, progressive and effective member of the State Assembly and I am proud to endorse her.” Friedman called Leyva “one of California’s leading fighters for working families and a model of effective legislative leadership.”
Leyva was elected to the State Senate in 2014, representing the Inland Empire.
Democrat Friedman is the leading candidate in Assembly District 43 (Glendale, Burbank, La Canada Flintridge and the Los Angeles neighborhoods of Silver Lake and Los Feliz). Friedman finished in first place in the June primary by a wide margin.
Friedman has been endorsed by the outgoing 43rd District Assemblymember Mike Gatto, State Senator Carol Liu who represents the vast majority of AD43 and by a diverse range of organizations including the Sierra Club; Planned Parenthood Advocacy Project, Los Angeles County; National Organization for Women; California Nurses Association; and the California League of Conservation Voters.
