Equality California (EQCA), the state’s largest and most prominent organization devoted to the fight for full equality for the LGBT community has endorsed Democrat Laura Friedman for State Assembly in District 43.
“Laura Friedman is an outstanding champion for full equality for the LGBT community and is a proven and effective leader in the fight for economic and social justice. Equality California is proud to endorse Laura Friedman,” stated Rick Zbur, Executive Director of Equality California.
“I am thrilled to have the support of Equality California,” responded Laura Friedman. “I have always been a strong supporter of equal rights for the LGBT community and a long-time advocate for full marriage equality. I look forward to working with Equality California to advance our shared commitment to equality and justice.”
The 43rd Assembly District has a large and active LGBT community, particularly in the Los Angeles neighborhoods of Silver Lake and Hollywood which were among the first communities in the nation to foster the emerging gay rights movement.
After the horrific massacre of 49 LGBT patrons at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, EQCA has made working for effective gun control a top organizational priority. Friedman has a strong history of leadership on gun safety issues. She took on the NRA in Glendale and cast the deciding vote to ban gun shows on city property.
Laura Friedman has been endorsed by a wide range of organizations, including the California Nurses Association, AFSCME California, NOW, Planned Parenthood Advocacy Project Los Angeles, Sierra Club, California League of Conservation Voters and the League of Humane Voters.
