Laura Friedman, who finished first by a large margin in the AD43 primary election, has a massive cash-on-hand advantage over her runoff opponent, Ardy Kassakhian.
Filings released yesterday (August 1) show Friedman with $124,797 cash on hand heading into the November run-off. Kassakhian had just $60,733.
In the primary, Friedman defeated Kassakhian by nearly 8,000 votes. Kassakhian devoted a great deal of effort to a vote by mail campaign but just barely edged out Friedman by 705 votes in the absentees. Friedman walloped Kassakhian in the precincts by 8,624 votes.
Kasskhian’s campaign was heavily dependent on Independent Expenditure campaigns by big real estate interests, including the California Real Estate PAC and the California Apartment Association, organizations that oppose state environmental laws and laws to protect renters.
Friedman continues to roll up critical endorsements from the organizations that make a difference to voters in the 43rd AD, including the Sierra Club, California League of Conservation Voters, Planned Parenthood Advocacy Project Los Angeles, National Organization for Women (NOW), EMILY’s List, California Nurses Association, League of Humane Voters, and, most recently, Equality California. Laura is also endorsed by outgoing Assemblymember Mike Gatto and State Senator Carol Liu.
